Guest Speaker Program
Sara da Silva Quintal, Restoration Ecologist with the Buzzards Bay Coalition, will present a Case Study on Invasive Phragmites Removal and Management. She will discuss invasive phragmites restoration programs which she’s managed for the Buzzards Bay Coalition with multiple partners. Their coalition's projects have included invasive species management, wetland creation, stream bank naturalization, fish passage, and shellfish restoration.
Several years ago, residents in Dartmouth and Falmouth, MA grappled with a major problem: How to best manage invasive Phragmites which were taking over marshes all around Buzzards Bay. Today, many of those areas are nearly free of Phragmites with a return to a more natural habitat. The Buckeye Brook Watershed has similar invasive vegetation and related issues which need management.
Sara received a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Rhode Island. She worked in the Buckeye Brook Watershed as a research scientist while in college. She has also worked in the consulting industry and with USEPA.
Please join us for this wonderful speakers program next Wednesday evening at the Warwick Public Library starting at 7:00 p.m.
