Did you hear.

A NEW KIND OF HERRING RUN

Add another one to the list of achievements Steve Insana and the Buckeye Brook Watershed Council. Last week we got an e-mail from Steve telling us plans for the first-ever Buckeye Brook road race are underway.

Dubbed the "Herring Run at Buckeye Brook," the event will take place May 20, 2006, and will kick off from the Knights of Columbus Hall and cross the stream at two locations during the annual herring run this spring.

"I met last night with reps from the Warwick K of C, the Pawtuxet River Authority and the Buckeye Brook Coalition," said Insana. "This will be a collaborated effort with the three organizations and the proceeds will go directly to charity and for environmental programs for children in the Warwick school system."

"I have been working on this for the past year and it has finally came to a head," he continued. "I have $5,000 appropriated for the race with a grant from the RI Rivers Council and will be soliciting potential sponsors over the next several months. We have a writer that will be working on the solicitation letters and so on."

Insana said he is also looking for sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring the event or would like more information, call Insana at 737-1342.
