Buckeye Brooke Coalition Works to Restore Marshland

March 2, 2011 By Teresa Garofalo

The Buckeye Brook Coalition will begin removing phragmite reeds Wednesday in the marshland along West Shore Road in Warwick.

The Warwick Beacon reports, it's an effort to restore the marsh and reveal a scenic overlook that hasn't been visible for decades.

Last fall, a company was hired to spray the reeds with herbicide. The reeds have to be killed before they can be mowed down and removed.

The marshland area is about three-quarters of an acre.

Once the reeds are removed, the Coalition hopes native vegetation will grow in place of the reeds.
