Much is said every spring when the blue back herring come up Buckeye Brook to spawn bringing with them the striped bass.

Recently I was driving down Tidewater Drive and when I crossed the bridge over Buckeye Brook something very unusual caught my eye. It was low tide and standing ankle deep in the water were 18 snowy egrets that had formed a gauntlet and were gorging themselves on the young Buckeyes that were returning to the ocean.

I wish I had a camera with me because the sight of these magnificent birds with a backdrop of some of the best fall foliage in Warwick was truly a thing of beauty.
